2010 Lexus Isf Interior

2010 Lexus Isf Interior

Despite these changes, only around 200 IS Fs had been sold in the UK by the time the axe fell in 2014. That's good news if you like the idea of driving something a lot more exclusive than an M3 but not so good if you like plenty of choice when shopping for your next car. At the time of writing, we found only around 10 IS Fs for sale. However, they looked like good cars. Conversations with a handful of private sellers were encouraging, too. To an owner, they had nothing but praise for their IS F's reliability and had taken real care of it. Our advice, though, would be to avoid paying their asking prices, which are on the high side.

We really tried to unearth problems with the model. The only relatively widespread issues we found, courtesy of a Lexus technician who owns an IS F, concerned leaky water pumps (earlier cars were most affected and problem pumps were replaced under warranty) and a leaky heat transfer plate. So not that much. If only we could say the same about an M3.

How to get one in your garage

An owner's view

Jack Jordan: "It's a rare and breathtaking car, the IS F. Mine is a 2008-reg with 59,000 miles. The gearbox is quick to change and the engine's power is intoxicating. It's a Lexus so very reliable apart from the well-documented water pump problem that affected earlier cars. Mine was changed without fuss under warranty. And that's another thing about running a Lexus: the dealers. It doesn't matter how old your Lexus is: they're always attentive and quick to resolve any problems and their rates are reasonable. With enthusiastic driving, the IS F will get through brakes and rear tyres, but it's a performance car, so what do you expect?"

Buyer beware...

■ Engine: The V8 is strong and capable of power upgrades, especially if you abide by the 5000-mile oil change interval. On earlier cars, the water pump can spring a leak so check the coolant level and look for coolant stains around the engine bay. A more serious problem is the curse of the leaking valley or heat transfer plate. You can expect labour hours to run into double figures. Beware cheaper sealant fixes.

■ Transmission: It's a good idea to have the fluid level checked at the next service as some owners have reported a dip. Under full power and when changing up, listen for a squeak as the engine's serpentine belt slips. Replacement of both it and its tensioner isn't cheap.

■ Steering, suspension: Owners of earlier IS Fs report concerns with their cars' ride quality. Autocar's testers felt the F was softly sprung but not softly damped, so it felt harsh and pattered over all but the smoothest roads. At speed, over crests, it felt floaty, too. So if your chosen car feels like this, it's meant to. The electric power steering feels remote but should be accurate and direct. It's also very sensitive to wheel alignment.

■ Brakes: Autocar declared these to be excellent, but with 1720kg and 417bhp to control, they wear out quickly.

■ Body: Look for signs of body repairs, especially at the rear.

Where to Donate Used Cars

Tanab/Shutterstock

One way to contribute to charities is by donating your car. There are many benefits of doing this, including being able to claim a tax deduction. Not only that, but you can support a number of important organizations. Donating your car is ideal for people that can't afford to give money to charities, and there are loads of worthy causes. But where can you donate your used car? Here are some great ideas.

Health and Wellbeing Foundations

There are some health conditions that cause significant damage to the lives of sufferers. Luckily, the USA has many foundations to help people, but they need regular donations. You can choose charities that support Aids, Cancer, Heart Disease and much more. There are loads of options available, and you can make a difference in someone's life. Car donations work by using the proceeds from auction or parts sales.

If you're looking for wellbeing organizations, there are many that support senior citizens, individuals with disabilities and mental health advocacy programs. There are also veteran charities which need regular car donations.

Environmental Causes

It's no surprise that fumes from your vehicle impact the environment, so why not make up for it? Donating your vehicle to an environmental organization means they can continue to work on conservation and global warming issues. Pollution from cars also causes damage to animals, and breeds such as tigers and elephants are in danger of extinction. Donating your vehicle can give these organizations the chance to fund breeding programs and ensure animals can live on. You can also donate to animal shelters and many other causes. It's important to give back, and you'll be able to find a cause you care about.

Faith-Based Charities

Our faith is sometimes the only thing that gives us hope and it's an important part of many peoples' lives. If you wish you could do more for your church, then donating your car could contribute to much-needed funds. There are many organizations including the Community Coalition for Haiti, Chabad Jewish Center, Children's Rescue Outreach International and Meals-On-Wheels. All these organizations offer vital services to individuals, including food, clothing, and shelter. Global disasters cause devastation to communities and can leave people homeless. Think about the disaster in New Orleans, the Thailand tsunami and the Haiti earthquake. Instead of scrapping your car, donate it and contribute to these causes.

Where Can You Donate?

The best thing about car donation is you can do it anywhere. There are options available in all states and you can choose an umbrella organization or donate straight to a charity. In most cases, all you need to do is offer your car for donation and the organization will arrange the rest. They tow your vehicle for free and take it at a convenient time, from a pre-arranged location. Donating your car is an easy process, and it saves you time. Yes, you could sell your car or exchange it for parts, but donating it makes a difference to someone's life.

Things to Know

If you're considering donating your car, then it's an easy process. Most organizations don't even need you to be present when they pick up the car, and they do all the work for you. The best thing is, even cars that don't work can be donated. Instead of scrapping your car, you can give it to a good cause and even claim a tax deduction. Donating your car is a winning situation for all parties involved. You get to do a good thing and avoid a chore, organizations get to sell your vehicle for money and the proceeds go to a worthy cause. Look online today or ask the charity you currently support if they accept car donations.

Mercedes Benz S500 Phev

Mercedes Benz S500 Phev

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class PHEV went on sale in Europe a few months ago. Despite having the S 580 moniker, the S-Class PHEV made do minus the standard car's 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 engine. Instead, the S 580 e has a 3.0-liter inline-six gas engine, a single electric motor, a 29 kWh battery pack, and a rear-wheel drivetrain.

But now, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class PHEV is available with an optional 4MATIC all-wheel drivetrain. Per Mercedes-Benz's release today, the car is available to order now in the UK, Germany, and the rest of Europe, with the first deliveries arriving near the end of this year. Mercedes has yet to unveil the US-spec S-Class PHEV or when it will become available to American buyers. We're hoping it arrives soon, given it has a lot to offer in the megabuck luxury category.

For starters, the 2022 Mercedes S-Class PHEV has the power to back up its aristocratic vibe. Despite not having a mild-hybrid V8, it has a 367-horsepower inline-six gas engine and a 150-horsepower electric motor, generating a combined output of 517 horsepower. What's more, the electric motor generates 354 pound-feet of torque instantly at any speed, and it can run in all-electric mode for about 62 miles (100 kilometers) before the batteries run out of juice. Oh, and it has an 87 mph top speed in all-electric mode, too.

The newest S-Class PHEV has a standard 11 kW onboard charger and a 60 kW DC fast charger. With the latter, you can replenish the batteries in under 30 minutes. For 2022, the S 580 e 4MATIC has an all-wheel drivetrain to offer better all-weather traction and grip. As usual, the S-Class PHEV 4MATIC is available in short and long-wheelbase variants.

Furthermore, the 2022 Mercedes S-Class PHEV 4MATIC has an updated MBUX infotainment system with a new "Zero Layer" interface derived from the all-electric EQS sedan. In other words, the infotainment displays the most essential and relevant applications on the top of the screen, depending on the driving scenario. Adaptive software and artificial intelligence save the driver from endlessly scrolling through sub-menus or giving repeated voice commands.

Other new features include more customization options from Mercedes-Benz's Manufaktur personalization program. Buyers can choose from over seven new paint finishes, five premium packages, and an exclusive leather-free interior. For the first time, the S-Class is available with the automaker's Artico artificial leather upholstery. Pricing starts at €130,638 ($146,800) for the 2022 Mercedes S-Class PHEV 4MATIC, about $4,000 more than the RWD model.

2018 Jeep Wrangler Trunk

Your Guide to Jeep Wranglers

CC0/Scozzy/Pixabay

The Jeep Wrangler is a car that bills itself on its fearless character. Jeep has sought to portray the car as the ultimate vehicle for adventure seekers who love exploring the uncharted path. This has proven to be more than marketing talk, for the Wrangler has proven a reliable off road winner. Its ability to drive through bush, rocky terrain, ice, and other unsavory weather conditions makes it a phenomenal car.

Unlike other SUVs that might pride themselves on their speed or size, the Wrangler is not a car for everyone. To learn more about this tough SUV and why you might want one, read on below.

Origins of the Jeep Wrangler

Behind the Wrangler stands a history that goes back to the Second World War. While the Wrangler was not in existence at that time, there in the annals of war history, you can find its direct predecessors. The original Jeep was a military utility vehicle used by the US Army to move manpower reliably in the war theater.

The Jeep was such a successful and reliable vehicle that, after the war, demand for its four wheel drive technology soared among civilian buyers. The Wrangler was the eventual result of successive innovations to make a Jeep suited for recreational use.

Jeep Moab - Best Overall Jeep Wrangler

With multiple Jeep Wrangler models to choose from, Jeep shoppers are spoilt for selection. This can make it tricky knowing which Wrangler is right for you. There is little doubt, however, that the Jeep Wrangler Moab is the ultimate vehicle in the lineup. It's best for those who want the latest and most complete Jeep technology updates. The 2019 Wrangler Moab features a V6 engine is capable of 285 hp. Exclusive features include Selec Trac 4X4 driving system, leather trim interior, and Jeep Performance Parts Rock Rails.

Wrangler Rubicon - Best for Off Road Enthusiasts

The Wrangler Rubicon model stands out from the other vehicles in the Wrangler lineup due to its suitability for off road activities. This model is named after the Rubicon off road trail in California, a tough trail whose challenge the Wrangler makes its home. With a 285 hp V6 cylinder engine, six-speed manual transmission, and 33-inch BF Goodrich K02, it's ready made for adventure. The Rubicon starts at between $38,000 and $40,000. Optional upgrades will cost extra.

Wrangler Sport - Budget-Friendly Wrangler

While Wrangler models are not cheap, for those looking to save some money, the Wrangler Sport is the best option. This model is available starting at between $28,000 and $29,000. It takes a minimalistic approach that sticks to the history of Jeeps in general, but is available in both a two-door and a four-door model. It comes with 17 inch by 7.5 inch wheels that are styled in black steel. The model comes with a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine for sporting performance.

Jeep Sahara - Best for Family Outings

With sitting room for five and enhanced ride comfort features, the Wrangler Sahara model is a natural fit for families. Not only does it fit more people than other Wrangler variants, but it departs from typical Wrangler design by adding more creature comforts. The Sahara has 18 inch polished aluminum wheels, a 2.0L direct injection turbo engine for improved city commute gas efficiency, and Selec-Trac four by four system. Its Sky-One Power Top is retractable. At the push of a button you can remove it and be able to see the sky or stand up out of the car for sightseeing.

Buying a Jeep Wrangler

There are Jeep dealerships right around the country where you can purchase your Wrangler. If you are purchasing used, there are even more buying options, from scouting owners in your area looking to sell, to checking sites like Craigslist.

There are several good reasons to buy used. First, if you are going on off-road adventures, you might not want or need the extra burden of doing that in a brand new car. A used car will cost you less and it is easier to justify the beating it will take in the outdoors.

The real advantage of owning a Wrangler, however, is that it's a long-lived car that will take just about anything you throw at it.
